Rise up and support our Black Mountain Schools! Join us for the Warpony Derby: a community celebration and vital fundraising event on Friday May 2, 2026 at 5:30pm at the White Horse in Black Mountain. Tickets are $50/each and include live music, food and drink, and a live and silent auction.

The event raises money for critical infrastructure for our schools, including:

much needed new student furniture for classrooms
A/V equipment so that our students voices can be heard during assemblies and performances
shades for our playgrounds to keep students and teachers safe from the sun
supplies for our robust art program and art integration in the classroom
materials to create outdoor classroom space and raised beds for gardening

State funds do not fulfill all of the needs of our schools, and our schools include more than 40% of students who are eligible to receive free and reduced lunch. This is in in addition to our ongoing Helene recovery work, which is very much still under way. We truly rely on our community to help our beautiful schools and children thrive. We know you agree that each child in Black Mountain deserves to receive an amazing education, to go to a safe and comfortable school, and to have the infrastructure and supplies that enable those goals. Please consider joining us for the Warpony Derby, giving generously at the silent and live auction. Then share this event with others in the community.

Attendees will enjoy a carefully curated event with live music by the acclaimed local artist Amanda Anne Platt, exciting live and silent auctions, and a live viewing of the Kentucky Derby, all while enjoying a beverage and hors d'oeuvres in Derby appropriate attire.
