The Story of Way Club

The story of Way Club started as a simple dream for Founder and Executive Director, Monique Harrington. At 14-years old, she imagined having a local hangout, much like The Den in her favorite TV show Moesha, where her friends could laugh, learn, and grow together.

"There was a dance club for teenagers in my neighborhood where the inside was pitch black. I asked my dad if I could go and he said 'Absolutely not!' While I am grateful my parents were watching out for me, that experience stuck with me. I really just wanted a place to go hang out with my friends. That place, a safe space my parents would approve of, didn't exist," shares Monique.

Since then, Monique set out to hone her skills and network to create that space for teens in Philadelphia and is proud to see her vision come to life through Way Club.

Way Club Overview

Way Club is a faith-based social club for high school students. Our mission is to cultivate spaces for teens who desire to be more through fun, exposure and accountability. Membership with at the club starts by attending our signature 2-week Summer Growth Academy program. The first week focuses on Personal Development and Self-Care and the second week covers Career Development and Civic Engagement. The goal of the program is to orient new members to the club's culture and provide exposure to people, places, and ideas that encourage fun and accountability in a safe way. After successful completion of the program, members gain access to the amenities offered by the club throughout the year which include: social club pop-ups, social outings organized by members, goals setting/accountability support, resource database, mentor database and more.
