What is The League?

The League is a performing arts and media pipeline designed to support, train and invest in the DMV’s next wave of event hosts, spoken word artists, radio/podcasts hosts, writers and stage performers. It is a culmination of multiple writing and performance-based youth and young adult programming hosted by Words Beats and Life, which includes the D.C., Arlington and Montgomery County Youth Poet Laureate programs, the Poetry Ambassador Program, the Aged Out Ensemble, and the DMV Youth Slam Team. The League integrates artistic development, civic engagement, publication, and performance, fostering a continuum from classroom to stage to global audience.

Supporting The League

Over the last year, we've lost nearly $80,000 from funders due to changes in funding priorities and the removal of funding opportunities. Your donation in support of The League will help us make up that gap and your support will enable us to continue doing the kind of work that is not only valuable, but also necessary.

Your donation will help us cover the cost of the publication of the Youth Lit Magazine, the Washington Writers in Residency program, training and travel expenses for sending the DMV Youth Slam team to compete in the Brave New Voices Youth International Poetry Festival, publication of the Youth Poet Laureates' books, The Combine (an annual decathlon celebrating written and spoken word mastery), and programming costs for all the programming that falls under the umbrella of The League.
