When the Spring 2025 tornado swept through St. Louis, it didn’t just destroy homes—it shook hearts, rattled spirits, and left deep emotional scars.

While most disaster response teams pack up after the debris is cleared, the real recovery is just beginning. That’s where Weathering the Storm comes in.

This trauma-informed wellness initiative by Bridge to Abilities (BTA) supports St. Louis residents—especially those in overlooked, under-resourced communities—who are still living in the emotional aftershocks of disaster.

Each month, our mobile wellness pop-ups land in trusted spaces like churches, shelters, and community centers to offer:

Crisis counseling + care navigation from trauma-informed clinicians
Sound healing + somatic workshops led by culturally aligned facilitators
Wellness kits filled with hygiene items, herbal teas, journals, and grounding tools
On-demand sound bath videos to extend care between sessions
A chance to be seen, heard, and held—in community

We’re meeting people where they are. Literally. Because healing shouldn’t require a car, a co-pay, or a crisis.

Bridge to Abilities (BTA) is a St. Louis-based nonprofit reimagining what it means to heal in community. We serve BILPOC (Black, Indigenous, Latin-X, People of Color) individuals living with invisible disabilities—such as multiple sclerosis, fibromyalgia, cancer, and mental health conditions—who are often overlooked in traditional systems of care. Our mission is to ensure healing is not a privilege, but a right especially for people of color and LGBTQIA persons.

BTA provides financial relief for medical, mental, and holistic health care, as well as food and utilities. We create safe, affirming spaces for communal healing, raise awareness about unseen disabilities, and offer whole-person trauma-informed wellness programs.

Our initiatives include community gardening to support nutrition, and Movement Matters—a gentle movement series that fosters strength, confidence, and mind-body connection. At BTA, we don’t just address crises—we cultivate a culture of care where people can reclaim their health, restore their dignity, and thrive.
