We should have almost zero dogs in our care right now.

Our intake has been closed. We made that decision so we could place the dogs already in our care, bring our numbers down, and get back to a place where we could responsibly say yes again. Instead, our population has nearly doubled.

Since July, six previously adopted dogs have been surrendered back into our care. In fact, while we were creating this fundraiser to address the five dogs who had already returned, we received another surrender.

Five became six before we could even finish telling the story.

We know times are hard, and this isn't about judging anyone's circumstances. But at the end of the day, the dogs are the ones who lose their homes and they still need to be cared for.

Right now, we're facing:

Double cherry-eye surgery for Beans, who is only 13 weeks old
Neuter surgery for Tux/Durango
An $800 emergency rescue floor repair
$525 in boarding costs next week
320 pounds of kibble
10 new leashes
Ongoing veterinary care, preventatives and daily expenses

Our immediate goal is $5,000.

We don't expect $5,000 to solve everything. We need it to help us get unstuck, care for the dogs already depending on us, get them healthy and into homes, and get our rescue back into a position where we can reopen intake.

We cannot save the next dog until we make room.

There will be another dog who needs us. Another shelter call. Another situation where we desperately want to say yes. Right now, we just can't.
