Mending Hearts is an incredible non-profit providing residential treatment for women who may be homeless due to addiction and co-occurring mental health disorders. In their 17 years of existence, Mending Hearts has never turned a woman away for her inability to pay. I have been involved with Mending Hearts for 6 years, both as a volunteer and now a Board member, and have seen firsthand that it's a place that truly changes womens' lives. The typical client comes in after years of substance abuse, and most have lost everything - their kids, their jobs, their homes, and their self-worth.
Mending Hearts helps them put their lives back together by giving them a home surrounded by other women walking the same path to sobriety while they are learning through various individual and group therapies to deal with the underlying emotional issues that led to their addiction. Unlike most treatment centers, women can remain at Mending Hearts until they are ready to reintegrate into society with the necessary tools to help prevent relapse. Some women stay up to a year and beyond.
I am asking my friends to please join me in supporting this fantastic gift of giving these women their lives back from addiction. The Mending Hearts staff are truly doing God's work with these women who would never be able to afford substance treatment without donors' generosity like you.
