I’m honored to share that on November 11th I’ll be receiving an award for Community Wellness from Sista Afya at their first annual Women in Wellness Awards Brunch.
Sista Afya is an organization providing free holistic mental wellness care services to Black women on the Southside of Chicago. The Women in Wellness Awards brunch honors leaders across Chicago that empower women and keep our communities healthy and thriving.
My personal story is deeply intertwined with the work of Sista Afya. From my own multiple years long journey in therapy to my advocacy for women, especially Black women, on the Southside, in Chicago, and beyond, to my work in communities across the Southside specifically to convening wellness events for Black women in my network in my home.
The work that Sista Afya is doing is critical. With the massive gaps in accessible/affordable mental wellness services led by and for Black women, the work that they do is groundbreaking, necessary, and imperative to our collective wellbeing. After all, so much of “the work” in our homes, communities, and around the world, is carried on the backs of Black women. Black women have been my saving grace and greatest catalyst in life and we need protecting, healing, care, and wellness, too.
As I bring in my 30th birthday this month, I’m asking you to support this much needed organization and myself by purchasing a ticket to attend the brunch or at a minimum donating to this cause. Even if you can’t attend in person, please please donate.
all my love and appreciation. ♥️
