Women of color are wildly underrepresented in filmmaking, photography, design, and other forms of art.
"I think that, with a few exceptions, much of human history has been told through the eyes of men. The ability to see what women see, what affects them, what is important to them, is so valuable. Women also often are able to gain access to places that men are forbidden in certain cultures, and that is able to shed light on issues like motherhood, poverty, illness and more." — Katharine Lotze, Los Angeles, California
As an organization focused on uplifting women of color in outdoor sports, we want to highlight those stories, share those inspiring moments, and document the experiences through the talented lenses of the exceptional women of color creatives who already exist and need to be put in the spotlight, as well as work to develop the skills of newer creatives, too.
While we cannot always compensate folks in the ways we want to, as a 2-women, early stage team, this is our first of many steps towards building a more equitable system and highlighting and empowering the rad women of color with creative visions.
Funds will go directly towards hiring photographers, filmmakers, and designers for various events over the next year. We will hopefully be supplementing this with brand support and also continue to raise funds in other ways.
