SEPTEMBER IS NATIONAL SICKLE CELL AWARENESS MONTH

This summer, CMG Global Foundation launched Stop the Stroke Before It Starts in recognition of World Sickle Cell Day on June 19.

This September, during National Sickle Cell Awareness Month, we are continuing the campaign—and asking our community to help us turn awareness into action.

Our goal is to raise $30,000 to support:

✔ Transcranial Doppler (TCD) equipment
✔ Workforce capacity and provider training
✔ Stroke-risk screening access
✔ Community education and outreach
✔ Long-term sustainability

Help us expand life-saving stroke prevention access

CMG Global Foundation is raising funds to expand access to Transcranial Doppler (TCD) stroke-risk screening, equipment, provider training, and sustainable care systems for children living with Sickle Cell Disease, with a particular focus on Nigeria and underserved communities in Georgia.

THE REALITY

Every year, children living with Sickle Cell Disease experience strokes that may have been preventable.

The challenge isn't simply whether the technology or medical knowledge exists.

Too many children still lack access to the screening, trained healthcare professionals, equipment, and follow-up care needed to identify and manage stroke risk.

Where a child lives should not determine whether that child has access to potentially life-saving screening.

WHAT IS A TCD SCAN?

A Transcranial Doppler (TCD) scan is a non-invasive ultrasound used to assess stroke risk in children living with Sickle Cell Disease.

The screening is non-invasive.
It can identify children at increased risk for stroke before a stroke occurs.
When elevated risk is identified, appropriate medical intervention can dramatically reduce the likelihood of a first stroke.

Early detection can change a child's future.

WHY THIS CAMPAIGN MATTERS

Nigeria carries one of the world's highest burdens of Sickle Cell Disease. At the same time, communities in the United States continue to experience disparities in access to specialized Sickle Cell care, screening, and trained healthcare professionals.

CURRENT PRIORITIES

NIGERIA

CMG Global Foundation is working with our partners to strengthen pediatric Sickle Cell stroke-prevention capacity in Nigeria.

Our priorities include:

Secure a DWL TCD machine or comparable TCD machine for a Lagos-area sickle cell site
Support local training led by Nigerian experts
Expand sustainable pediatric stroke-risk screening access

GEORGIA

CMG Global Foundation continues to support Sickle Cell awareness, partnerships, and expanded access to care in Georgia.

Our priorities include:

Address a documented backlog of pediatric TCD scans
Support mobile/community-based screening efforts
Expand workforce capacity for TCD screening

Built ongoing partnerships with the Sickle Cell Foundation of Georgia and Sickle Cell Foundation Nigeria

Received an Impact Award in 2024 recognizing contributions to Sickle Cell care in Nigeria
