Hey gang, Wrong Brain here,

We've had a rough go of it for the past year. Due to ongoing renovations, safety has become an issue in our space. Sam's hallway mural was damaged without any warning or compensation, replacement of the windows caused interruptions to our residents' access to their space and damage to artwork. Most recently, after the installation of new windows, an environment was created that was ripe for a mold outbreak to occur which entirely shut down our operating capacity. Mold spread from the pipes and walls, to the floors, and eventually to the art in our studios. It took days of frantic communication for the landlord to respond with one dehumidifier inadequate for the space and nothing further. The owner sought to blame the mold on how we operate in the space despite years with no issue. When we requested a mold assessment to ensure that it was not harmful to us and the space was safe to re-enter, an acquaintance of the owner (and not a mold expert) wrote a "visual report" at the will of the property owner with no data or testing involved; echoing the same exact language as the property owner. The building owners have shown they have no intention to solve the mold issue or fix the lack of ventilation in the space to insure it will not recur in the future.

This is all to say that we've hit our limit. The relationship with this landlord has become too contentious for us to continue operating in the space with confidence.

The big question is "what's next"

What's next is... well, it's probably a whole lot of what we've already been doing, but on a larger level.

We still want to provide the area with affordable artist studios.

We still want a gallery that's accessible for all of the wonderful artists who don't feel as though they can fit in traditional spaces.

We still want to do workshops, figure drawing, crafting nights, and watch movies together.

We still want people to have a safe venue in which to play music.

We still want to do comedy shows.

We still want to publish zines.

We still want to do alternative craft fairs for all of the local artists and crafters in the community.

We still want to have space for mutual aid, so that we can help care for our neighbors.

We still want to uplift the marginalized people who don't feel like they have a space to go to in New Hampshire.

We still want to be here.

What are we going to do with this money?

We are seeking a more permanent location for an ADA accessible community space. A space that continues to uphold our values as an organization. We will continue to proceed with our goals of equity and of horizontal leadership.

We are currently working on an exciting concept for what our future could look like. We will be sharing more details in the coming months.
