For my birthday this year, No gifts. No fluff. Just justice.

As my birthday approaches, I’m not asking for gifts. I’m asking you to stand with me in the work that fuels my life: advocating for social justice, protecting our immigrant communities, pushing back against the fear and trauma caused by ICE, and demanding dignity, and safety for the people too often pushed to the margins.

Every day, I see the courage of families navigating impossible systems. I see the harm that comes when our communities are treated as disposable. And I refuse to accept it. This is the work that moves me, fuels me, and keeps me showing up.

That’s exactly why I also serve on the Board of the League of Women Voters of California. The League’s statewide work strengthens the very systems that shape our communities, access to information, transparency in government, and the ability for people to understand and influence the decisions that shape their lives. For me, this is all connected: community defense, empowerment, and structural change that protects our people, not just in moments of crisis, but for the long haul.
