This campaign is to ensure that we do not fall short in our promise to Bolivian girls and women. We have 3 projects that allow us to provide reproductive healthcare to young and adult women with a focus on preventing teen pregnancy. In a country where this topic is normally taboo, we are honored to be able to have girls and women, communities, clinics and school allow us to not only broach the topic but also to offer solutions.

Contraceptive care is almost always condoms and men will not use them. Women forward contraceptives like IUDs and implants are almost never available unless you are wealthy. Girls and women want to control their futures and not for their futures to be controlled by unplanned pregnancies.

Here are the facts that play into this outcome:

Bolivia has the highest rate of sexual violence in Latin America.
One in three girls experience sexual violence before the age of 18.
70% of Bolivian married or cohabiting women report having experienced physical or sexual abuse.
Bolivia has one of the highest teen pregnancy rates in the Americas.
The risk of maternal death for teens is 4 times greater than women 20-30 years.

Women forward contraceptives have doubled in price since we began working on our 3 projects in January. We fear we will not be able to keep our promises in these projects.

• Jadelle Implants which young girls prefer, provide a less invasive method for 4 years of contraception for $22…now costing $43 (price for implants have doubled since we began this program).

• IUDs give women up to 10 years of contraception for $3.

We have a $10,000 challenge from a lovely donor who believes all girls and women should be allowed to determine when they are ready to have children and she asked us to rally a match for this donation.
