Small local food pantries and emergency food distribution sites across the state are community heroes showing up every day to stock their shelves for their neighbors battling hunger. They know access to food is a human right — no one should have to struggle with deciding whether to put food on the table or pay for other basic needs, such as a roof over their head. Recognizing food as a basic right underscores our shared commitment to human dignity, equality, and a world where everyone has the opportunity to thrive. But these food pantries, a lifeline for families struggling, are facing issues themselves.

They have challenges in participating in the state’s traditional food bank system to fully meet their needs (I.e. They cannot afford membership fees, cannot store the required minimum order of food, and more).

They are unable to buy what they need due to inadequate funds and/or food-buying sources.

They want to support Connecticut grown products but cannot afford to do so.

End Hunger Connecticut!’s (EHC!) Full Shelves Program provides financial support to food pantry agencies to meet their needs. Over 100+ local pantries are financially supported and given the resources to receive contracted pricing through wholesale vendors that supply local products to increase their buying power and fill their pantry’s shelves to better serve CT residents. Because of Full Shelves, over 70,000 families and individuals statewide have been able to bring home fresh, CT grown produce and non-produce such as meat, dairy, eggs, vegetables and more from their local food pantry.

We’ve already touched families in six out of eight counties in our state. But that’s not enough. Supporting End Hunger Connecticut!'s Full Shelves Program means helping food pantry agencies overcome challenges and serve their communities better with contracted pricing and local product access.
