Home ownership is the most expensive & important investment an individual can make in themselves, their future, their family, and their community. The Joy Fund was created by Georgiana Kendall, a 5th generation Downeaster, and is managed by the Community Caring Collaborative to assist first-time home buyers in Washington County, like Kelsey and George (above) make the transition to homeownership by providing funds for home inspections related to a home purchase.

"It was a really big relief to have help with the inspection," said Kelsey. She and George found a house they instantly fell in love with after 2 years of searching. But coming up with the extra money for the inspection was intimidating until their realtor told them about The Joy Fund and helped them fill out the application.

The Joy Fund will award up to $1,000 per calendar year towards the inspection(s) of a residence during the transition months between making an offer and closing on a house. Inspections are the best tool to navigate home repair and maintenance, offer a negotiation chip, and/or avoid costly repairs before you commit.
