Support UNBOUND: Honoring Stories, Uplifting Communities

UNBOUND is a transformative project based in New Mexico that uses dance, storytelling, poetry, and communal gatherings to honor the lives, legacies, and stories of Native ancestors who were captured and enslaved during Spanish colonization. This deeply meaningful work serves as a healing medicine for descendants and a heart-centered form of education for broader communities, fostering understanding, connection, and cultural resilience.

In 2024, UNBOUND made incredible strides, reaching 592 audience members through performances and free dance workshops. Highlights from the year include:

Research Residency in Abiquiu: Artists explored genealogical records and histories of Genízaro descendants with the invaluable guidance of librarian Sharon Garcia.
Free Workshops: Movement workshops at the National Hispanic Cultural Center, the Institute for American Indian Art, Wildflower Playhouse, Taos Center for the Arts, and in Guadalajara, Mexico, connected communities through healing and movement.
Performances Across Borders: Excerpts of UNBOUND were shared at prestigious venues, including the Museum of Contemporary Native Arts (MoCNA) and the LARVA Forum in Guadalajara, weaving together powerful stories that touched hearts locally and internationally.
Residencies and Rehearsals: Artists engaged in creative residencies at the National Hispanic Cultural Center and other institutions to develop and refine their work.

Through these activations, UNBOUND not only honored the legacy of Native ancestors but also strengthened bonds within communities and created space for education and healing.
