About Black Birth Equity NOW (BBEN)

Black Birth Equity NOW (BBEN) is a community-rooted nonprofit in Arizona dedicated to ensuring that Black and Brown birthing people have access to safe, dignified, and culturally responsive care. Built on the legacy of Arizona Birthworkers of Color, BBEN advances racial equity in maternal health through four pillars: childbirth education, workforce development, coalition building, and community-led research.

Our work is 100% volunteer-led, but our impact is powerful. From training and supporting BIPOC birthworkers, to hosting community education events, to advocating for systemic changes like Medicaid reimbursement for doulas and lactation consultants, we are shifting the culture of birth in Arizona.
