Story

OverComing Adversities (OCA) is a youth-led non profit in Puerto Rico that aims to promote economic mobility, develop Puerto Rican talent and break poverty cycles in the Island by mentoring and supporting the personal and professional development of impoverished youth between the ages of 18 to 25. OCA connects impoverished youth with a community of peers that are happy to dedicate time and attention to support youth in daily life and emergency situations. Through mentoring, safe spaces, meaningful engagement and social learning activities OCA helps young adults align their goals, thoughts and actions.

This 2023, OCA is starting an Island-wide tour of Puerto Rico's foster group homes and institutions to begin fostering relationships with youth before they age out of the system so they make the best of the programs and supports available for them while in the system. This initiative also helps create a pipeline of youth that can be a part of the Alternative Thinking peer mentoring program when they turn 18.  We are looking to raise $5,000 to cover transportation, materials for info sessions, and make an impact video to highlight the importance of positive engagement for the Island's foster youth.

With a small contribution you can share, otherwise inaccessible interactions that empower and prepare young people who frequently feel alone, unmotivated, and frankly lack the resources and safe spaces to explore alternative perspectives and try new things. So donate, and help young adults who have to fend for themselves feel more confident to successfully do so.
