The weight of yet another discharged client sits on my shoulders like a heavy cloak. I have seen the flicker of hope in their eyes, the tentative steps towards healing, only to have it extinguished by the harsh reality of their financial situation.

"I have insurance," the client had said, their voice thick with shame, "but the deductible is so high, I've barely made a dent. I can't afford to keep coming."

My heart aches. I know this story all too well. It's a common refrain, a heartbreaking consequence of the times we live in when even hard-working people can't afford to meet their health insurance deductibles and would risk bankruptcy if faced with a life-or-death emergency and the ensuing medical bills.

Stories like this are why Restored Life Counseling has a scholarship fund to help bridge the financial gap for those in need. The fund covers 50% of the cost of mental health services for up to 12 sessions, providing a lifeline for those struggling to afford the care they desperately needed. It's not there to be a free ride. It's not enough for the length of support that some clients need. But it's a stopgap.

Imagine the difference those 12 sessions could make. Imagine the weight lifted from someone's shoulders, the hope restored, the path to healing paved.

The specific cost of each scholarship varies depending on the nature of each person's situation and insurance coverage. But the average scholarship cost is $1,080. For clients with high deductible plans, the scholarship covers 50% of their insurance-company's contracted rate, not the therapist's private-pay rate. So, in some cases, the scholarship costs less than that.

This year, we're raising funds for ten scholarships. The total goal is $10,800.
