Happy New Year, Everyone!

Welcome to my 2026 Unity Farm Sanctuary Birthday Fundraiser! 🥳

Miss Maxine the Llama above (who turned 15 this past August!) is still diligently watching over her goat herd and welcomes you to this year's fundraiser bash! Thank you for everyone who came out to visit Unity in 2025 and if you are in the area, we hope you will come out and meet our beloved rescues in 2026! Here are some updates on rescues you met previously and some other guys and gals who call Unity their forever home:

Penny Blossom

Penny Blossom Pig has relocated to NY to be with our former Shelter Manager and Pig Care Specialist, Mike on the property of his beautiful new home, where wild strawberries grow for Penny to find as she roams the fields. Penny is still battling squamous cell cancer and will now only be 15 minutes from Cornell University College of Veterinary Medicine, where she receives her chemotherapy treatments. Equally important, Penny is able to maintain her close relationship with Mike, with whom she is very bonded and who will continue to take excellent care of her 🌸

No update would be complete without showing you our now 700 lb Scottish Highland calf, Hamish. Still a youngster, he now lives with the "big boys" Dudley, also a Scottish Highland and Pal, a Scottish Belted Galloway. After a few weeks of sniffing one another through the fenceline, they all integrated quite peacefully but when it comes to mealtime, Dudley and Pal still remind Hamish who eats first! 😄

Piglets Eddie Poe and Willie Blake are toddlers now and integrated with our other Kunekune pigs. What you see here with Animal Caregiver James on the right and LEAPers Eli, Josiah, Mustafa and Roman on the left is what we call a cuddle puddle!

The last survivor of his herd, Eddie Goat did not have many good prospects. While his family loved him, they could no longer take care of a herd of goats and he would have spent his remaining days alone - something very sad for a social creature.

Fortunately, his family found Unity and he will spend his remaining days with our goat herd - most times with Walter.

Potbelly Pig Norah came to us
this past summer just in the nick
of time with Kunekunes Phil and
Wolfie. They were left with a
number of other pigs under a
tarp in a pile of mud in a back
yard. When a neighbor
discovered them, he advised
the authorities he would shoot
them if they were not removed
within 24 hours and the sad
reality is, there would probably
have been no prosecution
unless the firearm was
discharged too close to a
residence, because very few
laws protect pigs.

Phil and Wolfie were able to
integrate with our other
Kunekunes but Norah needed
much more care. Afraid and
seemingly unable to see or hear,
our Animal Care Manager Liz,
pictured here with Norah, made
it her personal mission to make
Norah feel safe and loved.
While she may not have perfect
hearing, we found with the right
diet, we were able to cure her
"fat blindness" and now she
takes trip walking around the
sanctuary with Liz by her side.
Wallace the Red (a 1700 lb steer)
even has a little crush on her
and follows her along the
fenceline 💕

One of my favorite photos taken this last year by one of our amazing
Animal Caregivers - this picture shows the connection between Honeybun, the white broad-breasted turkey and Beatrix, the bantam hen.

Sadly, 46 million white
broad-breasted turkeys will lose their lives for Thanksgiving Day alone and chickens are 88% of the souls processed for food.

Perhaps as a resolution for 2026, we could consider incorporating more plant-based recipes into our diets or transitioning to a plant-based diet altogether. Each of us can save countless innocent lives, improve
our own health and help save our planet from the pollution of animal agriculture. A win-win all around!
