For the last 3 years I’ve worked at this youth-serving agency in Iowa City, IA. UAYs mission is to help youth create, grow and succeed. We have a breadth of programming offered at our agency from after school hangouts, art clubs, lgbtqia+ spaces, therapy services, court advocacy, and transitional living for youth experiencing homelessness. The last one there is called the Transitional Living Program, which is the facet of UAY that I have coordinated since October 2020. This program provides safe housing and skill building support to 16-22 year olds (including young parents!) who are experiencing homelessness in our community. This program provides space for youth who were asked to leave their homes, who have come from unsafe situations, or who have found themselves sleeping in cars, shelters, or on the street. Supporting our Ride 4 Youth fundraiser in any amount (be that $5, $50, or beyond) enables us to continue providing resources like furnished apartments and wrap around services to youth in our area.
