Welcome to "The Dirtiest Tradition in College Football!"

This year marks the 92nd Annual Michigan Mudbowl presented by Mug Root Beer and Almost Friday, approaching nearly a century of what Bleacher Report proudly calls "The Dirtiest Tradition in College Football!" As the nation's oldest student-led fundraising event, members of the University of Michigan's Greek community and beyond have united in dirty, hard-fought competition to generate more than $500,000 for life-saving pediatric research and healthcare over the past decade alone!

With your support, we are aiming to blow past our goals this year on Saturday, November 7, 2026. Whether you can join us on the muddy sidelines at the corner of South U and Washtenaw or are tuning in from across the globe, your generosity makes a massive difference.

🌟What’s Big & New for the 92nd Mudbowl 🌟

1. Mug Root Beer & Almost Friday Join the Team!

For the first time in our nearly 100-year history, we are thrilled to welcome our first-ever naming rights partner! Mug Root Beer and Almost Friday have stepped up with a massive $25,000 donation to kickstart our fundraising drive and anchor our game-day festivities.

"We are so excited to be a part of the Michigan Mudbowl, an incredible tradition that supports an amazing cause. This would not be possible without our great partners at MUG,” said the Almost Friday marketing team. “It's awesome to be involved with the gentlemen of the Michigan Iota-Beta Chapter of Sigma Alpha Epsilon, this event epitomizes the positive impact this group can have on the community and what we all care about."

2. The Return of the Women: Sororities are BACK in the Bowl!

Traditionally, sororities were an indispensable mainstay of Mudbowl weekend, but they have been absent from the mud for nearly two decades. This year, that long wait is finally over!

The student leaders of the Michigan Mudbowl Club and Sigma Alpha Epsilon worked diligently with the Panhellenic Association (Panhel) during the off-season to build a collaborative, safe framework that allows the women of UMich to participate in our most cherished charitable tradition once again. This year, they will take to the mud during halftime in a highly anticipated, high-energy Mud Volleyball Tournament Championship Showdown!

To mark this historic return, the sororities will be raising money for the Rogel Cancer Center at Michigan Medicine.Traditionally, sororities were an indispensable mainstay of Mudbowl weekend, but they have been absent from the mud for nearly two decades. This year, that long wait is finally over!

🏐 "Our chapters in the Panhellenic Association are so excited to rejoin Sigma Alpha Epsilon’s Mudbowl tournament!" Panhel said in an official statement. "As values-based organizations, our chapters are committed to supporting philanthropic efforts in our community and beyond. Because Mudbowl benefits both the Rogel Cancer Center and Mott Children’s Hospital, participating is especially meaningful to us, as these foundations are great causes and have personally benefited members and families in our community. Mudbowl offers an amazing opportunity for our chapters to give back to the incredible Michigan community. Thank you to Sigma Alpha Epsilon for inviting our chapters to return and support this amazing cause!"

🏈 "It's been an honor to be involved in a tradition like Mudbowl that has everything - the grit, the sportsmanship, the giving back - but since I've been here it's always felt like something's missing," said Max Wiley, President of the Michigan Mudbowl Club and the SAE Mudbowl Chair. "With the women taking part in the tradition again, Mudbowl finally feels like we can achieve our fundraising goals and make a true and lasting impact."

🏥The Legends & Traditions We Support

The Charles Woodson Clinical Research Fund

We are deeply honored to continue our long-standing partnership with Michigan football legend Charles Woodson. Proceeds from the main tournament directly support the Charles Woodson Clinical Research Fund at Michigan Medicine C.S. Mott Children's Hospital. Your gift represents a beacon of hope for children affected by life-threatening or chronic diseases, funding investigators dedicated to finding solutions, accelerating innovative pediatric treatments, and bringing real cures closer to reality.

"I've loved the tradition since I was a student in the 1990s, have always wanted to play in the Mud," Woodson shares. "It's a really great thing these guys do to help my fund at C.S. Mott Children's Hospital—the money raised has a direct impact on so many families."

The Rogel Cancer Center

In 2025, we expanded our charitable footprint to support the Rogel Cancer Center at Michigan Medicine. This powerful partnership is anchored by SAE alumnus and 1960s Mudbowl participant Rich Rogel. The Rogel Cancer Center is a National Cancer Institute-designated Comprehensive Cancer Center. The center’s pediatric oncology program works tirelessly to develop pioneering treatments and provide compassionate care for young patients and their families as they navigate cancer diagnoses.

The Soundtrack of the Mud: Back on our board of advisors is the phenomenal DJ Myint! As the official DJ for Michigan Athletics, Detroit Lions, Pistons, Tigers, and Red Wings, she’s used to rocking crowds of 100,000+ at the Big House. She is bringing her world-class festival energy right to the mud.
