I am on the Board of a great non-profit, EVkids (www.evkids.org), which matches low-income students in Boston in grades 4-12 with student volunteer tutors from area colleges to create multi-year tutoring and mentoring relationships. In 2021-2022, EVkids has continued to expand and will have the ability to support 130 tutor-tutee pairs. It has been amazing to see the impact that this one-on-one relationship has on both the tutees and the tutors, and the great training, support, and structure to enable these relationships to thrive and succeed that is provided by the EVkids team from top to bottom, including Site Directors and Education Advocates at each of our four tutoring sites in Roxbury and Dorchester, as well as a fully remote option to support students in this "new" way that we've all adapted to in the past year plus. In the Summer, EVkids runs a camp to give some of these city kids access to the experience and fun of community living in the Green Mountains of Vermont at no charge to them. EVkids has adapted to resiliently continue its mission even in the face of the challenges that Covid-19 has thrown our way, and we continue to provide our community of kids and their families with the support and structure that they want and need to grow and succeed.
