Welcome to EricsHouse! After losing my son Eric to suicide in 2016 my family and I were absolutely heartbroken. There is no guidebook on how to navigate such a painful and profound loss. I learned quickly that our culture does not understand how devastating a loss to suicide is on the entire family.

EricsHouse was founded in 2017 as a community of healing after the loss of a loved to suicide, alcohol, or substance use. We banded together to create a safe place for people to find connection, hope, and healing in the aftermath of tragic loss.

With a specialization in substance and suicide loss, we walk alongside our clients with understanding, compassion, and encouragement so that they may achieve emotional, physical, and spiritual well-being.

EricsHouse Impact:

To date, EricsHouse has provided 1,569 one-on-one grief support sessions for clients.
We have held 52 peer-led groups supporting individuals from all walks of life with a total of 3,038 sessions.
Taken together, our compassionate and caring support has resulted in 4,877 client sessions since June 2019.

WHERE DOES MY DONATION GO?

EricsHouse provides grief support from trained specialists who help clients navigate their grief journey. We use the companionship model of grief care which was developed by Dr. Alan Wolfelt. Rather than focusing on assessing, analyzing, fixing, or resolving, this medical treatment model is centered on providing a safe space where grievers are free to share their feelings in response to profound loss. This proven and effective model is anchored in respecting and exploring the uniqueness of one’s pain while allowing individuals to share grief and how it impacts their world.

Our trained specialists are certified by Dr. Wolfelt and are trained to be present to clients pain, listen openly and empathetically, and help them honor their loved one's memory. Most of our providers are loss survivors that understand giving back to others is an important step towards healing.

As part of our fundraising efforts, EricsHouse facilitators, Greg Eckerman and Matthew Burg and the Men’s support group members have collaborated on designing this unique coin. These coins are a tangible way to remember that our grief and our love are two sides of the same coin -- love and loss. None of us would ever willingly reduce the pain of our grief if it meant losing any of the love behind it.

Two inches in diameter, these coins are substantial and tactile. One side has an infinity heart, symbolizing eternal love. It includes the phrases: “The only way past the pain is through it” and “You are not alone”. The other side has a stylized representation of Melancholy, a sculpture created by Albert Gyorgy, and the phrase: “The Greater the Love, The Greater the Pain”.

Honor Your Loved One with a Leaf on the Tree of Life:

The EricsHouse Tree of Life is a custom art installation, created by local artists to help us remember our loved ones. This unique exhibit is displayed in the center of the EricsHouse facility on a 7′ x 11′ birch panel.

Our Tree of Life holds the names of people lost to suicide and substance abuse in the leaves on the tree. When you donate $100 or more in the name of your lost loved one, a personalized leaf will be placed on the tree as a lasting memorial. Only donations through the Tree of Life campaign will receive a leaf. Leaves may also be purchased for friends and family as a gift in their loved one’s honor.
