Ted Lasso was right when he said, "It is one thing to be sad. But we don't have to be sad alone." The experience of grief is unique to each person. There is almost always a component of loneliness. But there can be companions along the way. Life happens. Love happens. Sorrow comes. Hopefully when sorrow comes, companionship comes too. We need each other to sit together in silence, to hear the stories, to acknowledge the pain, to delight in joy-filled memories, and to hear ourselves think and feel aloud. I have been privileged since July of 2020 to companion Eric's House Members as they find their way through the "Wilderness of Grief" (as Dr. Wolfelt describes it). I honor the courage it takes to continue to open the heart to love and the eyes to beauty even while learning to bear life-long sorrow. I hope you'll join me in supporting the work of Eric's House as they seek to hold out hands of support to those who feel alone in their grief after suicide and addiction loss.
