Jenifer Merriam's Story

Lafora disease has been a part of our story for the past 11 years. It is ruthless, cruel, and never stops affecting us each day. I have 2 children who are suffering from Lafora disease, and the FDA approved safety study will have an enormous impact for our family. My daughter, 26 suffers from daily seizures and early dementia. I have watched her go backwards in all areas of her life as Lafora has taken more and more away from her. My son, 17 is in the beginning stages of this horrific disease so a safety study would affect everything about his life and his Lafora trajectory. Time is not on his side, so a chance at participating in the safety study this year could keep him moving forward into adulthood giving him the opportunity to dream, have experiences, and live his life without dementia, seizures, 24/7 care, isolation, injuries from falls, medications, and an early death. Please consider being a part of our story to give my son and daughter an opportunity to beat Lafora! The safety study is our only hope right now and every donation gives our Lafora children a fighting chance!
