A Legacy of Storytelling, Connection, and Community

In 2015, Marietta’s Theatre in the Square was just an empty space. Closed since the 2008 recession, it had become a quiet reminder of what once was. For years, people tried to revive it, but time and again, efforts fell short. The building stood still, waiting for someone to believe in its potential.

That someone came in the form of a passionate group of artists, leaders, and dreamers who saw something in this space that others had forgotten—the power of theatre to bring people together, to spark change, and to transform lives. It was a significant risk, but the vision was clear: to build a home for artists, performers, and patrons in the heart of the Marietta community.

Year after year, investments were made—not just in the bricks and mortar of the building, but in the people, productions, and a vision that would serve the greater Atlanta area. The theatre slowly came back to life, welcoming artists from near and far, and creating a cultural hub for the community to connect and celebrate the arts.

Today, thanks to the unwavering support of those who believed in the theatre’s potential, incredible milestones have been achieved. We’ve completed our eighth season, hosted over 20 local performing arts organizations, and welcomed more than 10,000 patrons through our doors. But we’re just getting started.

The Legacy Campaign: Shaping the Next Decade

As we prepare to celebrate our 10-year anniversary, we are launching our most ambitious initiative yet: The Legacy Campaign. This campaign will shape the future of Marietta’s Theatre in the Square for the next decade and beyond.

At the heart of the campaign is a commitment to expanding our programming in education, artist development, and youth engagement. With the next generation of artists and creatives in mind, we aim to provide training, mentorship, and creative opportunities that will ensure our community thrives for years to come.

But it’s not just about education—it’s about connection. We’re expanding our community engagement efforts through new offsite events, including:

The Call-A-Thon:

A day of outreach where volunteers and staff call on patrons and donors to connect, share updates on our progress, and encourage contributions to The Legacy Campaign.

The Annual Golf Tournament:

A fun and competitive day out on the green, bringing together supporters and golf enthusiasts to raise funds for the theatre’s mission.

The Fall Kickball Tournament:

A community-building event where teams come together for a friendly and spirited competition, strengthening bonds and supporting the arts.

The Winter Gala:

The grand finale of the Legacy Campaign, an elegant evening filled with entertainment, food, and festivities, celebrating the theatre’s achievements and the support of our incredible community.

The Next Decade: Expanding Our Vision

As we look to the future, we have exciting plans to grow and enhance our offerings. Over the next decade, we’re committed to:

1. An Expanded Education Program:

We will launch courses for both youth and adults, offering acting, directing, technical theatre, and film training. These programs will provide opportunities for individuals of all ages and experience levels to learn, grow, and develop their creative skills.

2. Enhanced Production Quality:

We aim to raise the production quality of our annual seasons to new heights, investing in state-of-the-art technology, improved sets and lighting, and more dynamic stagecraft to create immersive experiences for our audiences.

3. Branding and Marketing Growth:

We will amplify our marketing efforts to strengthen our presence in the community and beyond, ensuring that the theatre’s impact and mission reach as many people as possible.

4. New Play Development for the Camera:

In addition to live performances, we plan to expand our focus to new play development for film and digital platforms, bringing fresh, innovative content to a wider audience and exploring new ways of telling stories.

To support this vision, we’ve established *TheatreSquare Art Alliance*, a 501(c)(3) organization designed to strengthen our fundraising efforts and ensure the sustainability of our mission. The Legacy Campaign is structured in four phases, each tied to one of the exciting events listed above, with the Winter Gala serving as our campaign’s grand finale.

This is more than just a campaign. It’s an invitation to invest in the cultural future of our community. Every contribution, big or small, will help us build a lasting legacy—one that will shape the future of the arts in Marietta for generations to come.
