Join us for the "Stride for Change: Domestic Violence Awareness Run/Walk Race" Date: October 14, 2023 Location: Calvert High School Track About the Event: Lace up your shoes and make a difference at our empowering race. Run the timed race or enjoy the fun run, all while raising awareness for domestic violence and supporting survivors. Rain or shine, we'll be at the school track from 1:00 pm to 5:00 pm. Prizes and Rewards: Compete for victory and make an impact! Prizes await the winners of the race and top collectors of donations. Together, let's celebrate our strides towards positive change. Story
Welcome to the "Stride for Change: Empowering Survivors Domestic Violence Run/Walk Race," an event dedicated to raising awareness about domestic violence and supporting survivors on their journey to healing and empowerment. Hosted by Unstoppable You Ministries, founded by Jennifer Foxworthy, a post-domestic violence thriver and victim's advocate, this walkathon aims to create a safe space for survivors to share their stories, break the silence, and inspire change in our communities.
Jennifer's Journey: Our founder, Jennifer Foxworthy, knows firsthand the challenges faced by survivors of domestic violence. As a retired Navy Aircrewman, Jennifer shattered stereotypes and faced discrimination as she became the first African-American female Aircrewman, the first African-American Aircrewman in the enlisted ranks, and the first female In Flight Technician during her squadron tours. Amidst her remarkable achievements, Jennifer silently endured five years of service-member-on-service-member domestic violence.
While flying combat missions in three wars (Kosovo, Afghanistan, and Iraq), Jennifer fought a war on three fronts - battling an abusive partner, enduring workplace bullying and career sabotage due to her skin color and gender, all while silently carrying the burden of her pain. But Jennifer's resilience prevailed, and today, she stands as a survivor and a beacon of hope for others.
Unstoppable You Ministries' Mission: Unstoppable You Ministries is a faith-based nonprofit 501(c)(3) social enterprise that educates, empowers, and inspires men and women to lead whole and healthy lives. We believe in providing emergency services, education, and awareness, as well as supportive resources to community members around the country, especially those affected by domestic violence, human trafficking, and homelessness.
Why We Race: Domestic violence, human trafficking, and homelessness are pressing issues that continue to affect countless lives. It's essential to understand that one person can experience all three, leaving them vulnerable and in dire need of support. The "Stride for Change: Empowering Survivors" 5k Run/Walk Race is more than just a race; it's a united stand against violence and abuse.
We race to:
1. Raise Awareness: By participating in this race, we bring domestic violence, human trafficking, and homelessness into the spotlight, fostering understanding, compassion, and action.
2. Empower Survivors: Together, we create a safe and empowering space for survivors to share their stories, breaking the chains of silence and shame. We let survivors know they are not alone and that there is support and hope available.
3. Create Lasting Change: With each stride, we take a step towards creating lasting change in our communities. By supporting Unstoppable You Ministries' initiatives, we contribute to empowering survivors, preventing future violence, and ending the cycle of abuse.
