WMGSO Presents: A Video Game Recital

Washington Metropolitan Gamer Symphony Orchestra ensemble is proud to present our winter recital: An Evening of Video Game Music.

This performance features a collection of arrangements inspired by various Pokémon, Kirby, and Mario games, indie favorites like Undertale, and more! Come see captivating performances from flute soloist Margaret Suarez, saxophone soloist Hojin Yoon, and a brass quartet. All of the music for this recital has been tirelessly arranged by our own musicians who enjoy adding their personal takes on our favorite classic video game soundtracks.

The Washington Metropolitan Gamer Symphony Orchestra (WMGSO) is a nonprofit community orchestra based in the D.C.-metro area. We have over 130 active members participating in our full orchestra and choir, and we arrange and perform music exclusively from video games!

Because most video game music is not written for an orchestra and choir, our musicians must transform the original compositions into an orchestral version called an arrangement. Arranging is one of the most challenging and rewarding aspects of what we do.

The vast majority of our repertoire was arranged exclusively for WMGSO by our own members. Our music is based on a wide range of video games: classic to new, popular to obscure. Several of our arrangements also draw on and incorporate classical works and traditions, making them even more unique and special. We’re nerds who are committed to the source material and the classical art.

We recorded our first studio album in 2018 and are currently raising funds to record our second:

Crystals in Time is not only our second studio album, but also a celebration of WMGSO's 10-year anniversary; it is currently scheduled to be released in Winter 2023! We've almost reached our funding goal - check out the Crystals In Time Givebutter if you'd like to learn more and contribute.
