I really love sea otters. That’s because they’re not only incredibly cute, but also very intelligent. I could go on and on about the things I love about them—their innocent expressions, the way they nap while floating on their backs, their fluffy appearance, and so much more.
I live in Japan, but in this country, wild sea otters can only be seen in a very limited region, and there are only about 20 individuals in total. As for aquariums in Japan, currently, only one facility houses sea otters—just two of them.
However, it’s likely that in the not-so-distant future, we won’t be able to see sea otters in Japanese aquariums at all.
We must not forget their ecological importance as a keystone species.
Sea otters are not only adorable—they also play a critical role in maintaining their ecosystem, being one of the few creatures that eat sea urchins and keep their populations in check.
Right now, all I can do as an individual is visit sea otters, take cute videos, and share their charm with the world through my personal social media.
But in the future, I plan to use the assets and networks I build to contribute more significantly to sea otter conservation and related causes. Of course, this will not be for business purposes—it will be nonprofit.
At the moment, the only thing I’ve been able to do is donate to the Alaska SeaLife Center, but I’m grateful to have encountered this opportunity.
I will do everything I can right now to contribute in the best way possible through this.
