I started working with Alzheimer’s clients over the last 6 months as a caregiver. To be honest, I had little experience, as I was a teacher for many years prior. However, I became quickly immersed in a world that's taught me what it means to have great empathy. I’ve seen this terrible disease full-on attack WW2 heroes, CEOs, prominent athletes, old and young - it doesn’t particularly care whose brain it has, it will do its damndest to destroy it.
Walking alongside my clients has taught me that no matter how hard I think it is for me each day, the difficulties I face are nothing in comparison to those I'm blessed enough to help - THEY are the true heroes of the story, and I am playing for them, because their memories are worth fighting for.
