Story

The Latiné Musical Theatre Lab is an organization that develops and advocates for new Latine-written works of musical theatre in order to radically change who gets to tell musical stories on stages across the country and the world.

Our work is done through in-house development opportunities, including writer’s cohorts, salons, and readings; education programs that bring knowledge and resources into our community; connections and partnerships with theatres and producers around the country in order to break down barriers erected by gatekeepers - and get writers’ work produced; and in-house producing, from project-specific producing support to full, in-house workshops and productions helmed by the Lab. Though our physical home is in NYC, we serve writers around the world, and seek to create change in every corner of our industry.

Since it's inception, the Lab has served over 40 new Latin musicals, wit that number growing to over 70 by the end of 2023. Additionally, the volunteer staff has grown into an organization run by a young, Latine, and largely queer paid staff of future industry leaders. Not only has the Lab become a home for the future of Latine musical writers - it's a home for directors, administrators, producer, performers, and all the folks who represent the future of Latine representation in the theatre industry.
