Capoeira Institute Southwest is a local 501c3 nonprofit arts organization whose foundation is built on honoring traditions and building connections. We inspire and strengthen youth and communities in Tucson and Southern Arizona by engaging in the thrilling arts and culture of Afro-Brazilian capoeira - a free-flowing, dance-like fight for freedom, originally created over 400 years ago to fight for freedom from slavery.

Funding provides access for underrepresented youth and families, and supports in-school programs, community performances, and events that expand understanding of Afro-Brazilian capoeira, dance, music, arts and culture and bring diverse peoples together.

Funds raised in this auction will go toward the annual Batizado – literally “baptism” translated from Portuguese - and will provide scholarships for students and families in need so they can participate at no cost. The Batizado is the official graduation ceremony for our students (both children and adults). This event is open for community members to participate in workshops, or attend FREE as audience.
