In 2026, our nation will commemorate the 250th anniversary of the signing of the Declaration of Independence — and Philipse Manor Hall State Historic Site will play a central role in this once-in-a-generation commemoration.

As one of the oldest surviving buildings in New York State and a cornerstone of Yonkers’ heritage, Philipse Manor Hall stands as a living witness to America’s evolving story — from the upheaval of the Revolutionary era to the vibrant, diverse community that flourishes here today.

To mark this historic milestone, we are preparing Celebrate 250!, a community-wide celebration that will explore the many voices and experiences that shaped the nation’s early years. This landmark event will bring history to life through immersive activities, performances, games, and shared experiences for visitors of every age.

A Look Ahead: 2026 Program Highlights

July 4 – Independence Day Block Party at PMH

Celebrate the 250th anniversary of the signing of the Declaration of Independence with a landmark celebration at Philipse Manor Hall! This festive block party will blend history and fun through immersive experiences, interactive activities, games, live performances, and fireworks.

Revolutionary Fun for the Whole Family:

King George III Dunk Tank – “Dunk the King” for independence!
Lawn games and family activities
Live music and performances
Movie on the lawn after sunset
Free hot dogs and refreshments
Holiday market with local vendors

Game Club at the Manor

This interactive program invites participants to rediscover popular Dutch and Native American games once enjoyed by residents of the Hudson Valley. It’s a fun, educational experience that connects play with local history.

Historic Games for All Ages:

Traditional games such as rolling hoops, leapfrog, jump rope, and ninepins
Card and dice games
Verquere – the Dutch version of backgammon
Interpretive sessions on the cultural origins of each game

December – St. Nicholas Day Celebration

Celebrate the season with a festive St. Nicholas Day celebration at Philipse Manor Hall!
This Dutch-inspired holiday tradition brings history to life with Sinterklaas himself delivering candy canes to children of all ages. Visitors will enjoy festive décor, live music, storytelling, local vendors, holiday crafts, and gingerbread cookie decorating.

Concert Series & Vocal Masterclasses

From Baroque to Broadway – Music That Connects Centuries

A new initiative featuring free public concerts and masterclasses in partnership with local music organizations and specialty musicians. These performances will highlight works of historical or cultural significance, aligning with the mission of Friends of Philipse Manor Hall to bring art and history together for the community.

Seasonal concerts in the Manor or on the lawn
