YE Foundation: Transforming Lives Globally, One Eco-Step at a Time 🌍

The Birth of a Vision

YE Foundation (Y.E.F) was founded with a deep desire to create lasting change in Haiti and other underserved nations. The initial vision was centered on building a hospital to honor Yvonne Etienne, YEF founder’s late mother, who was a healthcare worker and professional chef that enjoyed caring for others and a desire to see Haiti and other countries prosper. However, early discovery revealed that the country’s infrastructure was not equipped to sustain such a project. This realization led to a crucial pivot.

YEF's founder quickly realized during an amazing 8 day culinary tour in Cap Haitien Haiti in 2023, a larger crisis that was undeniable, Haiti’s mounting waste problem. From uncollected trash piling up in streets some piles as tall as the building to the toxic effects of open-air burning, it was clear that waste management was not just an inconvenience; it was a public health emergency. This urgency laid the foundation for the first pillar of YE Foundation: Promoting Public Health.

The Challenges: Uncovering the Root of the Problem

YE Foundation’s journey quickly turned into one of research, exploration, and innovation. It became evident that Haiti’s challenges extended beyond just healthcare and basic infrastructure; the lack of waste management and energy supply was failing communities. This revelation expanded the foundation’s focus, making Environmental Sustainability the second critical pillar of its mission.

With an underlying desire to showcase Haiti’s breathtaking landscapes, rich culture, and tourism potential, another challenge emerged: the unmanaged waste was a major deterrent and not attractive to visitors. The presence of trash not only damaged the environment but also hindered economic opportunities for local businesses and entrepreneurs. This insight led to the final two pillars of YE Foundation’s mission: Tourism Advancement and Economic Growth & Development.

The Exploration Phase: Searching for Solutions

Determined to make a meaningful impact, YE Foundation explored multiple approaches to tackling Haiti’s growing waste crisis:

Moving Trash by Sea – The initial idea was to transport Haiti’s waste by sea for proper disposal elsewhere. However, this solution raised logistical and ethical concerns, particularly regarding the potential harm to marine ecosystems.
Uncovering Illegal Dumping – Through research and community engagement, we uncovered widespread illegal dumping, with Haiti becoming a dumping ground for international waste. This exposed the depth of systemic failures in waste management and the urgent need for a long-term, innovative solution.
The Incinerator Concept – Traditional incineration was considered as a way to burn waste efficiently. However, research revealed that incinerators produce harmful emissions, negatively affecting air quality and public health. This led us to search for a cleaner, more sustainable alternative.

The Breakthrough: Waste-to-Clean-Energy

After extensive research and consultation with environmental experts, YE Foundation found a solution that aligned with both environmental sustainability and economic development: waste-to-clean-energy technology. This innovation not only addresses the waste crisis but also transforms it into a renewable energy source, creating new economic opportunities while reducing pollution. With this approach, waste becomes a resource fueling communities, creating jobs, and reducing reliance on harmful waste disposal methods.

YE Foundation is now at the forefront of this movement, committed to transforming global waste into clean energy and positioning Haiti as a leader in sustainable innovation.
