In 2016, Bags for Wags started as a simple idea from longtime BAHS supporter Kathy Simmons! A night of handbags and heart, created to help animals in need. That very first event raised $18,731.93, and while no one could have known it at the time, something special had just been born.

Five years ago, Kristie Ward stepped in as chair, now our BAHS Board President, and with her leadership, creativity, and unstoppable energy, Bags for Wags transformed into something extraordinary. What began as a small fundraiser has grown into BAHS’s biggest event of the year, now raising nearly $100,000 annually to save lives, fund medical care, and keep our shelter running.

But Bags for Wags is more than numbers.

It’s the tables full of friends who come every year.
The bidding wars over the perfect purse.
The laughter, the cheers, the “I can’t believe I won that!” moments.
The joy of knowing that every bid helps an animal get a second chance.

It’s light. It’s fun. It’s a little feral.
