COMING SOON: THE BETH-HARK COMMEMARATIVE 40TH GALA JOURNAL

Joseph H. Holland - He has been a Harlem-based writer, attorney, entrepreneur, civic leader, and ordained minister for over forty years. As a young lawyer, Holland founded Harlem’s Ark of Freedom (Hark) to uplift the community in myriad ways. To address the exploding crack epidemic, Holland co-founded the Beth Hark Counseling Center in 1985, alongside then Bethel Gospel, Pastor Ezra Nehemiah Williams. It has continued to be a vital resource in Harlem & beyond for 40 years! It is because of this leadership he receives The Beth-Hark Harlem Innovator Award.
Dorothea Williams - In 1982, Holland met Bishop Ezra Williams, the Pastor of Bethel Gospel Assembly became his mentor. As their relationship matured, Holland and Williams partnered to launch Beth-Hark in 1985, a collaboration of Bethel with Harlem's Ark of Freedom. From the inception Bishop’s
Williams’ wife, Dorothea, became one of Beth-Hark’s most faithful volunteers, serving over the decades in the counseling center, the soup kitchen, the food pantry, wherever she was needed. The compassion and
perseverance shown is why we are presenting her ( and Bishop Williams posthumously), The Beth-Hark Pioneer of Honor Award.
Chaplain Robert Rice - having started at Beth-Hark as a wayward young man, received the mentorship and intervention he needed to course correct. Now as the NYPD Community Associate Chaplain, he champions outreach in Harlem, spreading awareness about gun violence. He has visited over 800 gunshot victims, offering spiritual support and community care. Robert demonstrates profound compassion that fuels healing, and hope, just like he received. It is for his transformed life and unwavering dedication to serving others that he receives The Beth-Hark Champion of Hope Award.
Reverend Dr. Zorina Costello - is the Director of Community Engagement at Mount Sinai’s Center for Stress Resilience and Personal Growth. She holds degrees in Psychology, Clinical Mental Health Counseling, and Pastoral Counseling. Dr. Costello leads the Multi-faith Initiative on Community and Health, integrating faith and health in underserved areas. She co-investigates the DISRUPT project on diversity in cancer research and advocates for equal access to resources. An ordained Elder in the AME Church, Dr. Costello serves at Bethel AME, Bayshore. A proud East Harlem native, she began her advocacy efforts at the age of 16. She is the recipient of the Beth-Hark Beacon of Health Award.
Jocelyn Gao - is the Manager of Member Investments at Food Bank For New York City, a hunger relief organization founded in 1983. Food Bank collaborates with over 800 emergency feeding programs across the city. With 13+ years in nonprofits, Jocelyn is dedicated to social services, impact, and innovation for New Yorkers in need. She supports efforts to reduce food insecurity through grants and capacity building with trusted partners. Food Bank of NYC will receive The Beth-Hark Helping Hands Award.
