Every day, first responders answer the call without hesitation. They protect our neighborhoods, care for people in crisis, respond when disaster strikes, and stand beside families during their most difficult moments.

Since its founding in 2019, this tournament has grown from a local golf fundraiser into a powerful regional effort to support the people and organizations that protect our communities. What began with a simple purpose—giving back to first responders—has now provided meaningful assistance to fire departments, law enforcement agencies, rescue squads, emergency medical personnel, first responder families, and charitable partners throughout the Piedmont Triad and across North Carolina.

The tournament’s impact has grown every year. The 2024 event raised approximately $125,000, including support for first responder families in Western North Carolina following Hurricane Helene. The 7th annual tournament in 2025 welcomed a record 128 players and raised nearly $200,000.

Why Your Support Matters

First responders are often the first people to arrive during the worst moments of someone else’s life. Their work requires courage, sacrifice, preparation, and an unwavering commitment to the communities they serve.

First Responders of the Triad was established in 2019 to return that commitment.

Through fundraising events, charitable partnerships, and direct financial support, the organization helps first responder agencies obtain critical resources, assists families experiencing hardship or loss, and supports recovery efforts following disasters.

Supporting First Responder Families

Following the line-of-duty death of Greensboro Police Sergeant Philip Dale Nix, the Tunnel to Towers Foundation announced that it would pay off the mortgage on the Nix family’s home. Inspired by the foundation’s commitment to fallen first responders and their families, First Responders of the Triad became a supporter of Tunnel to Towers.

Tunnel to Towers provides mortgage-free homes to families of fallen first responders and builds specially adapted homes for catastrophically injured veterans and first responders.

Helping Western North Carolina Recover

After Hurricane Helene devastated communities across Western North Carolina, First Responders of the Triad partnered with the Western North Carolina Association of Firefighters to assist first responders who had suffered serious personal property losses while continuing to serve their communities.

Approximately $50,000 from the 2024 fundraising effort was directed toward helping more than 68 first responder families cover insurance deductibles and recovery expenses.

Equipping Local Agencies

First Responders of the Triad has also funded practical needs for local public-safety organizations. One documented contribution provided $18,000 to the Rockingham County Sheriff’s Office to support its K-9 program.

These are real outcomes providing real resources to law enforcement officers, firefighters, emergency personnel, agencies, and families who need to know their community stands behind them.
