Central Texas Ruffugees is saving lives one dog and one mile at a time.

Central Texas Ruffugees rescues dogs from small, rural towns in mostly central and south Texas. They work with reputable and committed rescues who find their sweet pups their forever homes. They are a 501c3, non-profit organization funding solely through donations.

Origin Story

Did you know that there are dog rescues in northern states that continually run low on dogs? When some committed dog lovers in Austin found out, they thought “We can drive dogs from Texas to them.” And with that, Central Texas Ruffugees was born.

They no longer drive dogs themselves, but hire compassionate transporters to get dogs safely to their destinations. With the help of other rescues, they gather dogs from remote, rural shelters and areas, where they have little hope of making it out alive. We work with our pawtners in the Pacific Northwest and the Northeast to find homes for these dogs. Central Texas Ruffugees provides financial help for the vetting and transport of these lucky dogs.

Their tagline is “Their Lives Begin With a Journey” and they could not be more fulfilled to have been a part of each dog's journey.
