Tucked inside Bellaire’s beloved Russ Pitman Park, the Nature Discovery Center is a neighborhood gem where children, families & adults connect with nature in hands-on, meaningful ways.

Founded by passionate volunteers in 1979, the Friends of Bellaire Parks transformed a historic home and 4-acre green space into an urban sanctuary dedicated to nature-based education. Since opening its doors to the public in 1988, the Center has grown into a trusted community resource, serving over many visitors each year.

Our mission is simple but powerful:
To ignite life-long curiosity, understanding, and respect for nature through education.

We offer school field trips, camps, weekend programs, and family events that spark wonder for nature and foster environmental stewardship. Whether it's watching native wildlife, exploring our Discovery Rooms, or building towers in our nature play space, every experience at the Center encourages visitors to think critically, get curious, and fall in love with the natural world.
