That is the world Southern Birth Justice Network (SBJN) is building.

SBJN was created to ensure access to community-based midwifery and doula care for Black, Brown, youth, immigrant, Indigenous, LGBTQ+, and low-income families across South Florida. Our work is rooted in the belief that birth justice is not a luxury—it is a human right.

Birth justice was born in Miami, through the wisdom, courage, and leadership of Black midwives, birthworkers, families, and community organizers. Their legacy continues to guide our work today.

Through programs like community midwifery care, doula training, workforce development, advocacy, and storytelling, SBJN has spent years showing up for families and pushing for systems that center care, safety, and respect.

Where We’re Going

Now, we’re taking the next step.

SBJN is building Southern Florida’s first nonprofit Birth & Wellness Center, a permanent home for birth justice.

This center will allow us to:

Bring midwifery care directly into communities through our Mobile Midwife Clinic
Respond to hospital labor and delivery unit closures impacting communities of color
Train and sustain a local workforce of doulas and midwives
Create space for education, healing, and collective care
Strengthen our shared voice to advocate for policies that protect our lives and futures
