Fostering the Taoist Tradition through Education, Cultivation, and the Arts

The Taoist Studies Institute is devoted to the preservation and transmission of Taoist wisdom through study, spiritual practice, and the arts. Rooted in the principle of nourishing life (養生), Xuan Xiu Gong (XXG) is a living sanctuary—a place of restoration and transformation.

Why This Matters

Taoism offers timeless teachings for living in harmony with nature, cultivating inner clarity, and promoting health and longevity. These practices are more vital than ever in a fragmented and fast-paced world.

Xuan Xiu Gong has become a haven for authentic Taoist practice. The sanctuary’s landscape has been nourished by years of mindful stewardship through Feng Shui principles, reforestation, and dedicated cultivation. The land, shrine, community, and teachings together form a sacred ecosystem.

A Living Lineage

The Taoist Studies Institute holds a direct connection to the Longmen lineage of Qingcheng Shan in Sichuan, China. Our director, Master Mo Zhicheng (Harrison Moretz), is a 21^st-generation Longmen Taoist and a 2^nd-generation Hunyuan taiji lineage holder, faithfully transmitting these traditions in the West.

Preserving this lineage is not only about honoring the past—it is about transmission, the continuation of a living tradition, and—with your support—the sustainment of this enduring sanctuary for future generations.

Capital Campaign 2025

To carry this tradition forward and secure the sanctuary’s future, we are launching a capital campaign for 2025.

We are seeking to raise:

$123,500 by October 2025 to retire the mortgage
$300,000 total to complete improvements of the sanctuary

100% of your donation goes directly toward these efforts, helping us to:

Secure the Sanctuary’s Future - Retire the remaining mortgage on XXG Sanctuary, due November 2025
Enhance the Sacred Environment - Fund essential projects: a traditional gate, stone steps, courtyards, bridges, gutters, and side halls
Support Practice and Teaching - Provide new meditation cushions, expand gathering spaces, and preserve an authentic lineage
