Nearly 50 years ago, a group of community leaders came together with one shared belief: everyone deserves access to quality healthcare.

In 1977, that vision began to take shape with federal funding to establish a community health center in Bridgeport. What started as a small neighborhood clinic serving local families grew into Southwest Community Health Center, officially incorporated in 1980, with a mission that has remained unchanged ever since: providing compassionate, high-quality care to everyone, regardless of their ability to pay.

Over the past five decades, Southwest has grown alongside the community we proudly serve. From our first clinic to multiple locations across Bridgeport, we've expanded our services to include medical, dental, behavioral health, women's health, pediatric care, and community programs that address the whole person.

While much has changed over the years, one thing has remained constant: our commitment to caring for our neighbors with dignity, compassion, and respect.

As we celebrate 50 years of service, we honor the patients who have trusted us, the dedicated staff who have made our mission possible, and the community partners who have stood beside us. Together, we've built more than a health center. We've built healthier families, stronger neighborhoods, and a legacy of care that will continue for generations to come.
