Women’s Health Centers of West Virginia & Maryland | Fall 2025

This fall, the Women’s Health Centers of West Virginia and Maryland are coming to New York City to rally support for reproductive freedom and LGBTQIA+ rights in Appalachia and beyond.

Hosted at the renowned Pace Prints, this fundraiser will highlight an art auction curated by owner and West Virginia native Jacob Lewis and the Appalachian culinary creations of James Beard–nominated chefs Amy Dawson and Mike Costello of Lost Creek Farm in Harrison County, WV.

About WHC WV + MD:

Founded in 1976, the Women’s Health Center of West Virginia (WHC WV) was the state’s first abortion provider—and, by 2022, the last one standing when Roe fell. After abortion was banned in West Virginia, WHC WV acted swiftly to continue patient care, opening a second clinic in Cumberland, Maryland, in what was then an abortion care desert.

Today, the Women’s Health Center of Maryland (WHC MD) serves as a lifeline for patients. More than 50% travel from states where bodily autonomy is under attack—from as far south as Florida to as far west as Texas—to access life-saving abortion care and gender-affirming health services.

In addition to opening our second location, we also expanded our services in West Virginia, staying true to our values by launching an LGBTQIA+ Health program–currently the only provider in WV advertising that it’s seeing trans and non-binary patients–and a Harm Reduction Program, which specifically tackles the opioid crisis in Charleston, identified by the CDC as one of the nation’s “most concerning” cities for HIV outbreaks.

As we enter our 50th year of providing care, every step of the Women’s Health Center has been guided by a single belief: bodily autonomy is a human right.

What We Provide:

WHC WV (Charleston): Contraception; STI testing & treatment; gender-affirming hormone therapy; cervical & breast cancer screenings; wellness exams; and harm reduction services.

WHC MD (Cumberland): Full-scope reproductive care including abortion, contraception, pregnancy confirmation; STI testing & treatment; and wellness exams. WHC MD is also the only gender-affirming hormone therapy provider within a 100-mile radius.

Together, WHC WV+MD is a vital lifeline for inclusive, community-based reproductive and sexual health care across Appalachia.
