The 100 Men Hall

Built in 1922 by the One Hundred Members’ Debating Benevolent Association (founded in 1894), the 100 Men Hall in Bay St. Louis, MS, is a vital centerpiece of African American social life, history, and culture.

During segregation, the Hall became a essential stop on the legendary "Chitlin' Circuit," hosting music icons who were banned from white-only venues, including:

Ray Charles, James Brown, & Etta James
B.B. King, Chuck Berry, & Fats Domino
Sam Cooke, Professor Longhair, Irma Thomas, & James Booker

As one of the rare remaining physical landmarks on the Mississippi Blues Trail, the Hall served for decades as a community sanctuary for everything from live concerts to family celebrations.

Today, operating as a 501(c)(3) nonprofit under the leadership of Rachel Dangermond, the Hall honors its original mission by preserving the site, uplifting diverse and undervalued communities, and keeping live music alive.
