Since our initial beginning on May 21, 1971 in Newburyport, MA, Turning Point, Inc. provided services for disadvantaged youth, individuals with substance abuse, families in crisis and developmentally disabled individuals.

Over the past four decades, we have experienced incredible growth. Our first residential group home opened in 1988. In 1991, we opened our first forensic program in Middleton, MA. Today, our forensic programs have grown to 7 houses. The organization has also owned and operated a number of condominiums where individuals have been provided an opportunity for independent community living.

In 1991, we also were pleased to open the doors to our Women's Shelter in Amesbury, MA which was successfully operated for 25 years. The Shelter focused on aiding women in rebuilding their lives and in many cases, to reunite with their children. The Shelter also focused on helping women graduate to the Mainstream Housing Program where they were able to return to the community to live a productive life in one of our apartment settings. In May 2017, the Shelter was closed due to a decrease in funding making it financially impossible to sustain.

Over the years, Turning Point, Inc. has continued to grow and offer expanding resources and programs for our individuals. Services and supports are provided either directly or through formalized linkages to other agencies and community partners. As we plan for our future growth, we will tailor our programs to accommodate the ever-changing needs of our populations which includes our aging individuals, and those who require intensive behavior support, as well as those on the autism spectrum.
