Monday, November 16th: Join us for a night celebrating the heart, soul and generosity of Chattanooga!

At Empty Bowls Chattanooga, we believe everyone has a gift to share, something unique that can make our community stronger. This is the night where all those gifts come together for a meaningful cause: Reducing the school food debt for students and families in Hamilton County.

Artists craft the bowls.
Chefs prepare the food.
Businesses donate products and services.
Volunteers give their time and energy.

Together, we transform a simple meal into a celebration of generosity, creativity, and community, honoring what’s truly good about Chattanooga.

We also want to highlight something that often gets overlooked in this conversation: the mental impact school food debt.

Behind every balance is a family receiving reminders. Emails, automated calls, notes sent home in backpacks. While these may feel procedural from a systems standpoint, for parents already stretched thin, they can feel like constant signals of falling short. The stress compounds over time, not just about the dollar amount owed, but about the fear of embarrassment, of their child being singled out, of not being able to provide something as basic as a meal.

That pressure doesn’t stay contained to the cafeteria... It shows up in household tension, in anxiety, in shame. Children absorb it. Parents carry it quietly. School food debt is more than a financial deficit. It is a psychological burden that reinforces instability.

Addressing food debt is not only about restoring access to meals. It is about restoring dignity. It is about reducing stress in households and creating one less daily reminder that a family is struggling. When we eliminate debt, we are not just balancing accounts, we are lifting weight off families who have been carrying it far too long.
