A Story That Began with a Single Roll of Kimbap

Dear Church Family,

Whenever someone sets out on a long journey, there is often a part of us that wishes we could go with them. Even when we cannot travel alongside them, we still want to send something of our hearts with them. Sometimes that love is expressed through food prepared with care, hands joined in prayer, and simple acts of generosity.

In 2001, during a season when our church was without a senior pastor, a group of young adults was preparing to leave for a mission trip to Cambodia. To support them, members of our church made and sold kimbap. Some carefully rolled each one by hand, while others bought them and, in doing so, shared in the journey of those who were being sent.

That was how our church’s Missions Bazaar began.

Each roll of kimbap carried more than food. It carried a prayer—that God’s love would reach neighbors in distant places, even those we had never met.

With that same heart, our church continued to send mission teams overseas each year through 2019, and every spring we gathered for the Missions Bazaar. The bazaar paused for a time during the COVID-19 pandemic, but in 2024 it opened its doors again, and beginning last year, we resumed this meaningful tradition of giving for missions.

Many years have passed, but the heart behind it remains the same: we want to share with others the love that God has first given to us.

In 2026, our church embraces our third vision: “A Church Reaching the Nations.” We hold close to our hearts the call of Isaiah 60:1, “Arise, shine,” and the promise in verse 3 that the nations will come to His light.

We pray that the love of God, who first came to us, will now flow through our hands and hearts to others—to the person near us, and also to neighbors far away whom we have not yet met.

This year, we hope our Missions Bazaar will be more than a fundraiser. We pray that it will be a place where people meet, share their hearts, and experience genuine fellowship.

May it be a place where we offer an item and take a moment to ask how someone is doing; where we share our talents and come to know one another’s lives more deeply; where even a small offering is given together with prayer for the mission field. We also pray that neighbors visiting our church for the first time will be warmly welcomed and, through these encounters, come to experience the love of God.

The online auction and giving campaign will run from October 3 through November 6, and during that time we will gather in person for our Missions Bazaar on November 7.

We invite you to join us by sharing something you have treasured, offering your time and talents with a willing heart, or giving a small financial gift with prayer. Every act of generosity, offered according to each person’s circumstances, helps us continue the work of missions together.

Just as our church family once carefully rolled a single piece of kimbap with love, we hope to use what is in our hands again this year to share that same love with others.

May our small acts of sharing become a way for someone to encounter the God who loves them. Amen.
