The GW Healing Clinic is a student-run free clinic umbrella organization for several clinical volunteer sites in the D.C. and Maryland area that are run by the students of the George Washington University School of Medicine and Health Sciences (GW SMHS). Primarily, The Healing Clinic provides care to medically underserved patients of Prince George’s County at our Bridge to Care clinic, located at 5936 Martin Luther King Jr., Hwy Seat Pleasant MD, 20743. The Bridge to Care Clinic provides high-quality care to uninsured and underinsured individuals. The clinic is held weekly and serves as a gateway to formal healthcare systems through coordinated referrals and partnerships. Committed to equitable care, we offer all our services and diagnostic testing at no cost. Our clinic is staffed by GW SMHS student and physician volunteers, offering free primary and preventive care, health education, patient advocacy, laboratory testing, gynecologic screening, specialty referrals and health insurance enrollment services. Patients are seen by a team of student volunteers consisting of first and second year medical students who serve as clinic managers and patient navigators, fourth year medical students in an elective rotation, and physician assistant students. Recently, we have started working with undergraduate students to assist with Spanish interpreting. All aspects of care are supervised by our volunteer attendings who mentor teams in devising care plans for patients.
