Two Decades of Dedicated Service

For 20 years, DC SAFE has been there for survivors of domestic violence in the District, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Since our founding, we have worked to make sure survivors can connect with immediate support, advocacy, and resources when they need them most.

Today, DC SAFE remains the District’s only 24/7 crisis intervention agency for domestic violence. From answering calls on our Crisis Response Line to providing emergency shelter, safety planning, and advocacy, we help survivors navigate the moments when they need support most.

The Need Continues

Every year, thousands of survivors and their families turn to DC SAFE for support. The need for accessible, immediate services remains significant across the District. According to the DC Coalition Against Domestic Violence, 47% of women and 43% of men in DC have experienced sexual violence, physical violence, or stalking perpetrated by an intimate partner.

Survivors may need help finding safe housing, navigating the legal system, accessing emergency resources, or making a plan to move forward safely. As the need for our services continues, so does the importance of having the resources to meet survivors where they are, whenever and wherever they need us.

Looking Ahead to the Next Next 20 Years

As we celebrate 20 years of DC SAFE, we are looking ahead to what our community will need in the years to come. We will continue strengthening our organization, expanding partnerships across the District, and adapting our services to meet the evolving needs of survivors. Most importantly, we will continue working toward a community where survivors have access to the support, resources, and opportunities they need to move forward.

Your support helps make that future possible.
