The MAKEROOM Experience is free to attend. Everything in it is here because someone chose to give.

On Saturday, November 7, one room in the Los Angeles Arts District holds art, wardrobe, alteration, sound, wellness and hospitality at once. All ages from noon to 4. A 21+ evening from 5 to 9. Same room, same making. Different light.

The environments we create shape what becomes possible within us. A room can change how we behave. Clothing can change how we inhabit a body. A table can change who speaks to whom. The MAKEROOM Experience is a room built for becoming.

FUND A CREATIVE

The room is free for everyone who walks in, and the people who make it still get paid. Your gift brings a community artist, maker or facilitator into the room, paid to share their work.

Every dollar puts something real in the room: the creatives who lead it, a seamstress at the alteration bar, opening breathwork, the evening DJ, supplies for families at the Create table, coffee, meals for volunteers, and the furniture that turns an empty space into a room.

Our first fundraiser covers the full November 7th Experience. Anything beyond that funds the next one.

WHY WE’RE BUILDING THIS

Talent is everywhere. Access isn’t. Too many artists, especially artists of color, have work that’s ready but no space, materials or connections to show it.

The MAKEROOM Experience exists to change that. We build creative infrastructure that turns underused spaces into places of participation, belonging and opportunity, so emerging creatives get the resources, relationships and visibility to sustain their craft.

The artist brings the work. The room brings everything else, and the room is built by all of us.

Founder Kay Wheeler is giving the first gift: their original painting, Between Sensation & Language, donated to auction with every dollar going back into the room. The next gift could be yours.

BID ON BETWEEN SENSATION & LANGUAGE

Original mixed media on canvas, signed, with a certificate of authenticity. It hangs in the room on November 7, and bidding closes live at 7:30 PM. All proceeds keep the Experience free and pay the creatives who make it happen.

BRING SOMETHING FOR THE ROOM

Art supplies: new canvases, acrylic paints and markers, pastels, brushes, clay
Clothing for the swap: kids’ through adult sizes, clean and in good to like-new condition (every item is reviewed)
Volunteer meals: catered lunch, boxed meals, snacks or drinks. Businesses that feed the crew are thanked in the room and on our channels.

GIVE YOUR TIME

Volunteer from setup to close (we feed every one of you), or lead a fireside chat: a small, informal conversation about what you know, what you’re building or what you’ve learned. Sign up at makeroomexp.org/join.html#involved.

MAKEROOM × MAJESTIC

Majestic Art Gallery connects creative expression with financial literacy, helping families turn art into a path toward college savings. MAKEROOM gives creatives the space and resources to be seen and paid. Together, we’re building toward the same future: creativity as a path to opportunity, for today’s artists and the families raising the next generation.

On November 7, Majestic leads the kids’ art experience, and every gift serves both missions. It keeps the room free, pays the creatives who build it, and supports families saving for their children’s education.

Come as you are. Make room for what’s next.

The MAKEROOM Experience is fiscally sponsored by Majestic Art Gallery, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit (EIN 93-4712800). Gifts are received through Majestic and are tax-deductible to the extent allowed by law. Auction purchases are deductible only for the amount above the item’s fair market value.
